AT THE END OF THE DAY (From Les EDiRambles)
TOYS At the end of the day when the humans all go home Deep in the voids a noise can be heard There’s giggling, and there’s singing And the words are kinda familiar Songs from the shows with EDi bear’s words He’s one day nearer to stardom At the end of the day he searches the whole house Looking to see what people have lost The treasures people leave He won’t let them get thrown out They all go back to his void for use in his show One day closer to first night At the end of the row, there’s a toy that is hiding Some little kid has left him behind He’s frightened and he’s shaking He’s wishing he hadn’t been brought here His owner lost hold of his hand And now the little toy’s lost here But he’s hoping that he won’t have to stay For more than one day At the end of the day all lost toys stick together They know the thoughts that are filling his head LOST TOY There’s a little child sitting at home And his tear filled eyes are red ‘Cause he can’t get to sleep without me He won’t go to bed And his mother is stressing! MOUSE Have you seen how the theatre cat is fuming today? With his terrible breath and his frightening claws? It’s because little EDi won't give him his way No cat can chase a lost toy that in-house agreement still stands! TOYS At the end of the day EDi’s got lyrics to write With a new song to sing by public on-sale day Make a costume, find a prop Keep on drafting until all the words fit But first he has to stop The little lost toy's being frightened He’s got to ease his mind At the end of the day EDi So who are you, little innocent toy? Come little friend, please tell us your story LOST TOY I was sitting quietly next to his mummy The child needed the loo There was no time to lose... There was shouting and running about Somehow me and they got parted. (He begins to cry.) EDI This is a theatre not a charity shop Come tomorrow you are sure to be found It’s my business to help lost toys I am the Master of this house You can count on me to sort this out We’ll all be patient so please be calm Now let me explain how it all began! At the end of the day I too was a lost toy I’m the first that arrived and never was found You can guess how lonely I felt But other toys started arriving Together we turned this theatre into our home But the cat didn’t like it! Yes there was once a child And that child was my owner But then we were partedand I was left with the cat Now we live here together in harmony, even the mice And I play in performances My audience the cat! At the end of the day He’s caused me nothing but trouble And all of the mice are all still living in fear ButI’m lucky to say that I’m well read So I sweeten him up with my Shakespeare And with a little pervasion I eventually made him agree To star in my next play I’m sure I’ll rue the day! LOST TOY I might have known that during this night I’d meet new friends and find some help But never hoped to find such magic This place it seems is full of fun Your life to me is like a dream And you’re the cause without a doubt Of all the laughter hereabout Now you’ve helped to ease my fears I know we’ll have a brilliant night. TOYS At the end of the night they’ll be some nice cleaners They’ll find you and take you away up the stairs Your owners they will phone up And later that day they will turn up And you’ll get to go home and be with your friend At the end of the day |
